A Nairobi MCA is set to present a motion for the impeachment of Speaker Beatrice Elachi over abuse of office and gross misconduct.
Waithaka ward representative Antony Kiragu has also raised concerns about conflict of interest and undermining the authority of the County Assembly Service Board.
In his notice of motion to the Speaker, Kiragu says that Elachi’s actions have caused the assembly “great embarrassment and brought the Office of the Speaker into disrepute, contrary to the gamut of laws on conduct of state officers of her caliber”.
He says the assembly has resolved to remove Elachi from office and is seeking at least 108 signatures for the motion that will be tabled on Tuesday.
Clerk Jacob Ngwele, however, alleges that Elachi has a personal interest in the Sh150 million tender for the acquisition of the Speaker’s residence.
