Malawi political tension force embassy to close, castel company threatens to close its business.

From August one 2019 Norwegian embassy in Malawi has announced that it will close it’s visa section.

It has directed that all those willing to obtain Norwegian visas should travel to Pretoria in south Africa for the process.

This comes barely 2weeks after USA embassy closed its consular section in Lilongwe.

Meanwhile management of Castel Malawi Limited, producers of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages has threatened to close its business in Malawi due to high excise tax rate imposed on the company.

In a statement, Castel Malawi Limited managing director Harve Milhade said the company’s efforts to negotiate with Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on the need for tax exemption has yielded no results hence the company is considering closing shop as it is struggling to sustain the business.

The company admits in the statement that over the past years it has struggled to maintain business profitability due to the continued decline in sales volumes.
