Gertrude Mutharika, Thursday, 6th December, 2018, presided over the launch of an OXFAM led Ending Violence against Women and Girls (EVAWG) in Mchinji.
The Campaign is aimed at mobilising communities and victims of Gender Based Violence to speakout and report perpetrators in order to end the malpractice.
The First Lady described violence against women and girls as an evil that shutters dreams and the future of women and girls.
She urged all victims of abuse especially women and girls and communities to report any form of violence to stop the vice.
She said silence in the face of abuse provides fertile ground for violence against women to thrive.
The first lady also appealed for more support towards institutions and services that supports victims of abuse to improve their services.
Before launching the campaign, the First Lady toured Kamwendo Police Unit to appreciate services provided by the unit’s Victim Support Unit (VSU) where she pledged to donate a computer, beds and mattresses among other needs.
