“A suspect has been caught after attempting to sale her demio vehicle to a police officer at Nsalu”
Report: Today the 18 October 2019 in the afternoon at Nsalu Trading Centre in Lilongwe, Detective Sub Inspector Chinsanje of Nsalu Police Unit, was offered a motor vehicle Mazda Demio Registration number DZ 4606 white in colour for sell by Arafat Gonani through Mr Ackim but the officer got suspicious of the transaction and he immediately arrested Arafat Gonani.
Arafat Gonani was born in 1997 from Maluwa village, T/A Kabudula in Lilongwe district was questioned by the police officer to establish if he was the owner of the car but failed to give a satisfactory explanation.
The police officer detained both the vehicle and this person in order to establish the ownership of the motor vehicle.
The Anti motor vehicle theft Unit at Central Region Police Headquarters was informed of the matter so that it is investigated further.
The Anti Motor Vehicle Theft Unit Officers visited the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services which according to their records, shows the motor vehicle is owned by Ms Lucy Kadzamira and her proxy is Mr Collings Kaliza. The police officers called Ms Lucy Kadzamira mobile number but could not be reached. Then they called Collings Kaliza who confirmed that indeed the motor belongs to Ms Lucy Kadzamira who stays in Area 47 Sector 3.
Together with the police officers, Collings Kaliza lead them to the house but upon arrival they discovered flies in the windows. They got suspicious and decided to inform relatives so that when opening the house, the relatives must witness the opening of the house.
When the relatives were called and availed themselves at the house, it’s when it was discovered that Ms Lucy Kadzamira was dead.
The issue of suspected theft of motor vehicle by this police officer has lead to the discovery of murder of Ms Lucy Kadzamira at her house in Area 47 Sector 3 in Lilongwe.
Arafat Gonani is being held in police custody for the offences of murder and Theft.
Investigations are in progress to establish what actually happened and who are the other suspects to the crimes.
